Crane was the representative for Illinois’s 19th congressional district and was a Republican. He served from 1983 to 1984.

He was previously the representative for Illinois’s 22nd congressional district as a Republican from 1979 to 1982.


On Jul. 14, 1983, the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct investigated Crane for a sexual relationship with a 17-year old female House page in 1980 and recommended reprimand, 11-1. On Jul. 20, 1983, the House of Representatives empire777 loginrejected the reprimand recommendation, 289-136; censured him instead, 421-3. On Nov. 6, 1984, he was defeated in the election.
